Changwe linked with Prisons XI coaching post

The Zambian tactician is reportedly worried over the uncertainty of his future and has offered himself to various clubs.  Flamingoes’ senior officials are yet to open talks for a new contract with Changwe.

In July this year Changwe was offered a short-term contract, which was to be renewed based on performance.  The First Division North (FDN) side currently occupies position four, three points behind league leaders TAFIC who have amassed 10 points. However, the Sua-based outfit has a game in hand.  Prisons XI are currently under the tutelage of caretaker coach Sylvester Madisa who took over when Philemon Makhwengwe dumped the club in favour of Gaborone United.

Changwe has not been sitting on the bench during matches of late because his work permit has expired.  Mmegi Sport has also learnt that the former TAFIC mentor was recently invited to submit his curriculum vitae (CV) to Prisons XI and has since done so. Prisons XI officials were reportedly impressed by Changwe’s coaching prowess during their play-off matches against Flamingoes.

Yesterday Prisons XI general manager, Meshack Makepe denied that the club recently invited Changwe to submit his CV to the club.  “The truth of the matter is that we are looking for a substantive coach. We have not invited anyone to submit his CV. Several coaches who I cannot name have voluntarily opted to submit their CVs. We will look at their CVs and make a suitable appointment,” he said.

On the other hand, Changwe confirmed that he has submitted his CV to the Prisons XI management after he was invited to do so, but would not be drawn into discussing the matter further. “I am currently contracted to Flamingoes and I do not think it will be appropriate to extensively discuss offers or the possibility of leaving the club. Such talk can destabilise the club. I am really happy at the club,” he said, adding that his wish is to stay with the club. He confirmed that he has not been sitting on the bench because his work permit has expired.

“I have two capable assistant coaches who are also fast learners. They have done very well on the bench during my absence,” he highlighted.

Changwe presided over the club’s best ever run last season. In the second stanza of the season, the club won 10 matches and drew one.

Flamingoes finished second in the FDN league behind BR Highlanders who were eventually promoted to the elite league. The team lost in the play-offs meant to book a Premier League place against Prisons XI.
