Rags-to-riches studio relocates to Phakalane, to better tell Botswana story

The company which manages the acquisition and post process from script to screen and is known for their Internet broadcast programme called ‘What’s The Fuzz’ (WTF) has finally found their new home after starting out in Tsolamosese in 2013.
The production company, which is one of the first film companies to take the initiative of airing their productions on the Internet, has worked on various productions that are now airing on Now TV among others.
The director of the company Otsetswe Sedimo told the media during the launch that when they discovered this business in 2013 in a multipurpose bedroom in Tsolamosese and then later at Partial, they decided to take a leap of faith and invest in a better studio in Phakalane.
“We believe outsiders have told our stories and stories are powerful tools. Most of the stories didn’t represent us and we had to tell them from inside. Stories have been part of us since childhood. Our focus as Torch Studio is on stories because no one can tell them like we do,” he said. Sedimo said the experience they have is enough to take the business even across borders. He said they did a product that aired on DStv and are ready to work with various companies because everyone has a story to tell.
“We have an audio sector and we have done TV and radio dramas and this has pushed us in corporate and other events,” he said.
Sedimo was quick to mention that Torch Studio is a 360 film video production from script to TV and everything is done in-house. “In the past years, Bots products were not able to meet international standards and now we have improved. We can put ourselves on the map.
“I don’t do this alone and it’s done by Batswana,” he added. He thanked his team for working together. He further said their doors are open for other stakeholders.
“We know better to tell stories. Torch Studio has been producing and now our quality can speak for us. We had to improve first because we were not there yet,” he said.
Sedimo said Now TV has managed to support them and other stations like Maru TV are also working with them.
