Speaking at a press conference held at Curves Gym in Gaborone, Tumagole said she was starting gym in order to tone her body.

“I am starting gym to tone up my body. I want to prove to people that even plus size women can tone down their bodies and still look fabulous. I am also preparing myself mentally because I don’t know what would be asked as it would be the first time I compete internationally,” she said.

Tumagole said she had engaged previous beauty queens and princess to assist her with preparations such as posture and what to expect during the international beauty pageant.

“I am currently getting help from Gorata Masiapeto who is the first princess of Miss University of Botswana 2016 pageant. She is also my makeup artist and will be accompanying me to Trinidad. Am also getting help from Keamogetse Basima who is Nokia Face of Africa 2006. She is giving me advice on the do’s and don’ts of the pageantry more especially in the international level,” she said.

She added that as a young Christian woman, she was getting prayer help from her family and friends. She explained that as a believer she could not give up and lose faith in God because she was what she was because of him.

Tumagole, 23-year-old scooped Miss Plus-Size Universe Botswana title after outshining her fellow contestants in October this year.

According to the event director and coordinator, Gorata Kekgethegile they were currently preparing for the Miss World Plus size beauty pageant that would be held in March 4, 2017.

“We are currently working with local designers and Curves gym to prepare the queen for the pageant. However, we are appealing to the local business community to assist us as much as possible in sponsoring the queen during her quest to bring the crown home. We so far have a few business communities on board,” she said.

Furthermore, Kekgethegile pointed out that they have been able to award the winners 50% of their prizes. She said the queen walked away with a whooping P10,000, a year gym membership from Curves Gym and a year beauty treatment from Rejuvenate Beauty and Slimming Spa.

She said the first and second princess walked away with P5,000 and six months membership at Curves Gym. She said the ladies were getting 30 minutes for four days a week in the gym.

Formed in 2012 by Pearl Williams, the focus of Miss Plus Size Universe is to educate, motivate and promote self-confidence with the mission to create community development programmes that provide jobs, scholarships, medical and health initiatives, educational projects and skills training.

“The pageant is not based on size, but rather about ways to build self esteem and promote beauty from within. Too often plus size women get criticised and frowned upon because of their figure. We are here to prove that these women are just as beautiful, smart and bold in every aspect of life”, she added.
