Electro music gaining recognition

Being one of the very few electro house DJs, German Dollar has always been consistent and passionate with playing the music genre on the decks. As one of the few electro music DJs he has previously faced challenges with promoters when it came to bookings but with time everything came together.
“The journey has been long having started playing mixes at Yarona FM some years ago. I didn’t look at the market because I was passionate about the genre only to realise after some time that I was one of the few guys playing this genre. So I decided to give myself the responsibility of making people understand this type of music,” he said.
He stated that the electro music is a global genre, which must be fully appreciated locally as it is not yet at the level it is expected to be but him getting an award means that there is some recognition. German Dollar also spoke about the challenges that he used to face with promoters who would have a problem with booking him because of they type of music he plays as a DJ, “this led me to playing mixes that have a familiar sounds that can accommodate everyone. For the past three years it has improved, promoters are approaching me to perform at their events”. Of recent he has had a great run being called to perform electro mixes at various events such as Botswana Electronic Music Festival, Chillstep Sunday and EDM Fridays.
“I am glad to see that there are young upcoming DJs and producers that are into the same genre, they just have to work on improving the quality of their sound. We also have guys such as Drew and J and S Productions who have been spearheading EDM events,” he said.
Apart from being an electro DJ he is also a producer that has worked with a number of local musicians such as Sasa Klaas, BK Proctor and Veezo to produce electro tracks. He has been distributing his music on various digital platforms such as Sound Cloud, Twitter and Faceboo. He is planning on staying consistent and growing the genre locally. German Dollar is currently working on his upcoming single set for next year and also on the Grove Cartel album, a group he is part of.
