Night crawlers seemed to appreciate the latter more. Zakes Bantwini got up on stage some minutes after 1am to the cheers and whistling of the crowd that had been dancing all night to the DJ’s music. He seemed to be losing it as he began by playing some of his unpopular hits. At that time, his fans who had gathered closer to the stage had dispersed and gone back as they now looked disinterested and probably disappointed by what he was playing. However, he did not give in yet to their demands as he patiently played his preferred and selected songs even though he was losing the attention of the audience.

Just when most the audience seemed preoccupied with chatting and drinking, Zakes Bantwini upped the tempo. Even those who were sitting down throughout his performance, especially in the VIP section got up and started to hit the dance floor when he played ‘Clap your hands’.

It showed that the song is still his all-time best as he even performed it twice before he closed his performance of the night with the new single ‘Your King’.

At the time, it was clear that people had enjoyed themselves as many went outside to either take a breather from all the dancing they had been doing. It is a song that made him a household name.

Prior to his performance, Zakes Bantwini said in an interview that, just like his fans, he feels great every time he listens to ‘Clap your hands’, something that shows that it was a brilliant song.

He said that he believes in making good music because it lives forever. “I don’t want to be remembered as someone who made a bad song.

I still meet people who tell me that their favourite song from my whole career is ‘Clap your hands’.  It feels great,” said Zakes Bantwini. Meanwhile, Zakes Bantwini said he collaborated with DJ Merlon in the new single, but added that he maintained his original signature.
