This follows the Botswana National Sport Commission’s (BNSC) recent announcement that Botswana will host the AUSC games, which are held every two years from the local Botswana Games.

“As a member country in the region we will be hosting the AUSC Region 5 Games in the year 2018. We continue to do this as a test for our readiness to host major games in the future,” stated BNSC chairman, Solly Reikeletseng.

Speaking at the Mascom Volleyball Awards recently Molaodi pleaded with MYESCD permanent secretary, Kago Ramokate that volleyball must be included in the games. “As we will be hosting the games I hope you will assist in ensuring that volleyball is part of the games,” Molaodi said.

He said they understand team sports codes are not easy to run as compared to individual ones because they are expensive. “However, we as volleyball are grateful to have overcome that problem as we are making our mark in Africa. We are about to bring medals home,” Molaodi said. He said team sport codes must not always be sidelined with an excuse that they are expensive.

Moreover, he emphasised that individual excellence ought to be celebrated in team sport codes as in most cases individual performance is overshadowed by the whole team something that makes great athletes to be ignored.

The AUSC games are currently underway in Luanda, Angola. Netball is the only team sport representing Botswana. The BNSC stated that other team sports were compromised due to limited funding hence netball is included for preparation of the Netball World Youth Cup that Botswana is hosting next year.
