Bonyongo retires, Milton takes over at Debswana

A statement from the diamond giant this afternoon indicates that Debswana’s shareholders have asked Bonyongo to stay on as a consultant for three months after his retirement “to ensure a smooth leadership transition”.
Bonyongo has 26 years of service within Debswana and was appointed managing director on January 1, 2014. He is credited with the group’s strong performance across various business areas, including overseeing the multibillion Pula Cut 8 project, from where Jwaneng Mine is currently tapping diamonds.
Milton, meanwhile, has more than 25 years experience in Debswana at both operational and strategic level, including five years spent at the helm of Morupule Coal Mine, a wholly Debswana-owned entity.
Debswana chairman, Bruce Cleaver, paid tribute to Bonyongo while also welcoming Milton to the top post.
“These are very exciting times ahead for Debswana with a huge amount of opportunities on the horizon and I believe Albert is the ideal candidate to take the business forward and maximise its potential,” he said.
