Another Soldier Allegedly Rapes Stepdaughter

The current case bears the hallmarks of another case in which a soldier based at Area S camp is awaiting sentence after he was found guilty of raping his stepdaughter. When the case started before Principal Magistrate Dumisani Basupi last week, the accused’s attorney Kagiso Jane told the court to note that medical report form that is part of evidence shows that the girl was not penetrated.

Narrating her ordeal when giving her evidence in chief, the complainant said that on February 1 this year, she reported the matter to her Guidance and Counseling teacher after she was psychologically affected by what her stepfather, a soldier at Area S, allegedly did to her.

She said: “I decided to report the matter to my teacher after my stepfather raped me three times in succession”.  She reported to her teacher that in the first instant, when she went to her step-father’s house in readiness for a trip to Gaborone with the stepfather to see the mother in Gaborone, it was on that night that the stepfather took advantage of her.

She said the second incident took place in Ramotswa when the mother had gone to the hospital. However, the victim says she was hesitant to break the news to her mother fearing it could wreck her marriage.

“She claimed another incident occurred in 2014 at the stepfather’s residence, BDF camp, Area S, when she had travelled there, from Blue Town, to ask for relish after being sent by her aunt.

She said after the incident, the stepfather gave her P10 for transport, back to Blue town.

She said it was during this year that she eventually mustered the courage to share her ordeal with her Guidance and Counselling teacher.
