Police Investigate Gang Rape Of 11-Year-Old Girl

The acting Officer Commanding, Paul Oketsang told The Monitor that the intruders attacked the little girl and her siblings all of school-going age whilst they were sleeping and demanded money and mobile phones.

“They (intruders) found the children sleeping alone whilst their parents had gone out. When telling them that they do not have money and phones they allegedly dragged the little girl to the nearest bush and raped her,” he said.

“Despite having raped her, they did not assault her, but rather left her to find her way back home afterwards.”

Oketsang said investigations into the matter are ongoing to locate the suspects who are still on the run.

“The children did not identify the intruders as it was their first time to see them, but they said all of them were young and they might be in their late 20s or 30s,” he said. He noted with great concern the escalating rape cases in his policing area despite their interventions to curb the surge.

Oketsang raised a concern stating that it is usually hard to locate and arrest suspects in cases of this nature because most of the times victims fail to identify them.

Two months ago a 15-year-old girl was gang raped by two men after they attacked her on her way from school. Then the two men had allegedly stopped their vehicle next to the girl and forcefully dragged her into their car, covered her face and took her to a house where they took turns raping her.

A month ago another 11-year-old girl was also raped at Senthumole ward in Mogoditshane after an unknown man allegedly attacked her at the bus stop whilst she was waiting to board a taxi to Block 9, Gaborone.

Oketsang raised concern on escalating rape cases in his policing area, especially in Mogoditshane as rapists continue to cause havoc.  He said women in the village live in deep fear because of rapists.
