Aiming high: TAFIC will look to cement their top position

BR Highlanders, TAFIC and Motlakase Power Dynamos have been neck-and-neck since the league started.

After nine games, TAFIC sit on top with 22 points and 12 goals with Highlanders breathing heavily on them on 20 points and 11 goals.

Motlakase are on third position with 19 points and eight goals.

It was Highlanders who first rose to the summit of the log and held the fort for seven weeks before they were displaced by Chouka a fortnight ago after Highlanders lost 1-0 to TAFIC.

Chouka’s stay at the top was however short lived as a week later they went down 3-1 to Highlanders and fell to the third position.

Matjimenyenga who have been chasing the duo took advantage of Chouka’s shortfalls against Highlanders and walloped the struggling FC Satmos 4-0 to climb the ladder to the top.

This Sunday the red hot Matjimenyenga will look to cement their position at the top of the log but will have to go through Selebi -Phikwe’s Real Movers who have proved to be stubborn against the big guns.

TAFIC coach, Blessing Moyo who is happy to have finally risen to the top, was quick to admit the games are getting tougher and said the league is still open.

“Games are coming in tougher every week but we are patient. We have enjoyed a great backing from everyone in the team and we are enjoying ourselves in the pitch.

When we started the league, we never thought we will be leading but nine weeks later we are on top. We have been patient and we will continue on the same path,” he said.

He said the league is still open for everyone but their mission is to go all the way.

Highlanders will also face a stern test when they take on Mamoja who are slowly finding their feet following a porous start to the current campaign.

But Highlanders coach, Boyo ‘Oris’ Radipotsane remains calm and said their focus is to win all the games.

“We are ready for the weekend game. We have prepared well and we are confident. Our focus is not on who is on top right now. We want to continue winning all our games. We still have second round to play and we believe at the end we will finish at the top. If teams do not hold TAFIC, we will do it for ourselves when we meet again,” he said.

After falling from the top last weekend Chouka will look to make amends with what looks like a walk in the park when they welcome struggling FC Satmos at Palapye Swallows grounds.

Chouka had turned the venue into a slaughterhouse winning four games and registering one draw, conceding once and scoring 11 goals before they played Highlanders.
