The finals for the show are billed for the first week of September 2019 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre.

The show will see one winner walk away with a pre-owned 2014 Audi A4, P50,000 cash, a home recording studio worth P18,000, a recording contract worth P30,000, two international performance opportunities in Canada and Japan and a number of other incentives.

The founder of Micon, Frank Lyn who is also a local gospel music artist told Arts & Culture that the show seeks to empower upcoming musical talent while giving the world unparalleled world-class family entertainment. He said the show is open to other genres excluding kwaito and hip-hop.

“By cross-platform we mean it will be broadcast via various platforms starting with radio being the main medium, followed by online platforms such as YouTube and the event website.  We are still trying to secure television platforms,” he said.

Lyn added that the top 3 runners up will not walk away empty-handed, but rather information on their prizes will be released soon.  “The winner will continue to benefit from the Micon corporate relationships for a duration of 12 months from the date of crowning,” he said.  Lyn was quick to say that the contest is open to Batswana only who are aged 18 years and above.

“Auditions will be hosted in about eight of Botswana’s major towns to determine the top 20 participants. Thereafter the top 20 will go through grooming and training for four to six weeks then the competition will start.

The programme will see participants working as individuals, duets, quartets and quintets for acquisition of certain necessary skills for growth in the music industry. These phases are meant to break the monotony of the show’s flow,” he highlighted.

Lyn said the intention is to have the top 20 reside in one place for the duration of the show.  He said a panel of three judges would facilitate a selection of the finalists with votes from the public carrying 40% of the points.
