The assembly, held under theme, ‘Our empowerment, our unity, our victory #2019” took place in Mogoditshane.

Masisi said the theme was relevant and more appropriate in view of the recent signing of the Gender Protocol by government.

“I would like to thank the former president Seretse Ian Khama who yielded to persuasion by the central committee and the Cabinet and this protocol is also in sync with the Women’s wing 10-point agenda,” he said.

“I wish to declare that as your leader I stand ready and open very positively to assure women in position. I also expect you as women in return to recruit new members and to ensure that we win.”

Masisi said the government has taken deliberate steps to ensure the protection of its citizens with regard to gender-based violence. This he said will be achieved through the development of Domestic Violence Act regulations, which facilitate the domestic violence Act of 2008. He said much needs to be done to ensure that there is more women involvement in politics particularly at decision making levels.

“As such, you must ensure that your deliberations at this assembly in the next few days will give guidance to the party in how it can build capacity for women for more participation and how we can establish and strengthen our structures to achieve this,” the president said.

In narrating the 10-point agenda, Masisi said it emphasises key areas like; empowerment, training, finance and investment strategy, social investments and responsibilities amongst women to ensure a resounding victory in the general elections. The BDP women’s wing chairperson, Dorcas Makgato declared their support for Masisi, something she said they intend to do for the next 10 years of his leadership.

“I say 10 years with pride and I say 10 years deliberately because it is our sincere expectation that you will serve the entire 10 years with full support of the women of the BDP,” said Makgato.

She said the women’s wing has clear intentions for the next general elections victory.
