The Serbian gaffer had expressed his frustrations over the issue and threatened to quit.

He said together with players, they have gone between four and six months without being paid adding that the players cannot focus thus putting them in bad position.

However club spokesperson, Phemelo Saleshando without disclosing how much they owe him, did admit that they have not been paying the coach his full amounts. He said the players are also facing the same predicament. “For the players we agreed that we will give them 60% of whatever money we raise, may it be through gate takings or grants,” Saleshando told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

He said they managed to conduct a fruitful meeting with the coach and he understands the team’s financial state.

“We are planning to execute fund raising activities so we can be able to pay him,” Saleshando said. He stated that the financial situation cripples the team and urged who ever can support them to do so. “We are drained by things like travelling. We need financial help and our doors are open for who ever wants to help,” he said.

A source close to the club told Mmegi Sport that all staff members have gone for months without pay. “It is true. He (Drago) once told me that he has not been paid ever since he joined the club and I can confirm that all staff members of Sankoyo are facing the same problem. His situation is disturbing as he is a foreigner and he came here to work,” the source said. The source further said even the players are always asking about their outstanding payments every time they get to training.

Drago also complained about lack of experienced players in the team. The Serbian instructor joined the Maun-based outfit during the beginning of this season after the team lost a big chunk of their experienced players. However, ever since the season began the Serbian has been able to find a winning formula with the young and inexperienced players to the surprise of many.

‘Ngurungu’ as its supporters affectionately call the team is currently occupying seventh position with 12 points out of eight outings. They won three, drew three and lost two games with the latest loss being against Mahalapye United Hotspurs last weekend. They take on log leaders, Orapa United at Itekeng Stadium tonight.

Meanwhile, in other interesting midweek fixtures scheduled for today, Township Rollers take on Extension Gunners in what is likely to be thrilling encounter. Both sides are desperate for a win following last weekend’s results. Rollers drew against less fancied Miscellaneous while Gunners lost to Gilport Lions. Jwaneng Galaxy host Mochudi Centre Chiefs while new comers, Black Forest and Security Systems lock horns in Molepolole.
