The league, which already started behind schedule, was handed another setback when referees failed to pitch up for a match between FC Ambassadors and South East Girls United. This is despite the fact that all necessary measures were put in place when the league started. Confirming the news to Mmegi Sport, the league chairman, Kabelo Moremong said all necessary requirements were in place for the game but only learnt at the eleventh hour that match officials could not pitch for the game.

“I can confirm that the game was not played. Unfortunately the referees did not pitch up but as the league committee we were informed that they would come for the game. We are yet to have a clear answer on the matter,” he said. Moremong further said they would meet the referees committee today to come up with solutions to curb incidents of this nature so that they do not happen again in future.

“These kinds of issues would persist if we do not act on them immediately. Before the start of the league we tried to come up with resolutions for the problems we had encountered before.

I think the referees were engaged in another activity but we will meet the relevant authority tomorrow (Wednesday) to seek clarity,” he said. The league fixtures reveal that teams would play their games a day apart contrasting the regulated 48 hours break as stipulated by FIFA. Moremong said they had to make the congested schedule to meet the scheduled league period.

“We started late hence why you will find out that some of the teams would play two games in a weekend. We are aware that this is against the rules but we have consulted the teams and we agreed that would be best solution for us to finish the league on time,” he said.

Meanwhile, holders Township Rollers beat city rivals Gaborone United 2-0 to remain at the summit of the log with four games played. UB Kicks beat Wonder Girls 1-0 on Saturday while Meat Girls hammered Big Sisters 5-0 at the Ledumang grounds. Double Action continued good form in front of goal with 6-1 win over Kanye Swallows.
