He noted that communication and recruitment is key to the success of the party hence it is vital to register more people to the party especially women who still show reluctance to join politics.

“I urge you to use this meeting among others, strategise on how you are going to recruit new members into this party. Use new methodologies or platforms of communication such as social media, but also be mindful not to be caught up in unbecoming tendencies of using contemptible language or even attacking your own members,” he said.

He further stated that there are party structures meant to address grievances, not having a go at each other through the public domain.

Khama strongly believes that social media can in fact be used positively to primarily attract new members and send out the party message hence promoting the party and its candidates.

The President said social media can also be used as a platform for interaction and positioning the party in good light, to remind Batswana that there is still no alternative, BDP is still the best placed party to move Botswana forward for better development and better livelihoods.

“For all intents and purposes it will be remiss of me not to speak about the issue of our democratic credentials, principles and values. That is knowing the basic, that in a democratic set up, there should be healthy respect for each other, the ones who lose should rally behind those who emerged victorious for we are a team after all,” he added.

BDP Women’s Wing chairperson Dorcas Makgato also shared the same sentiments as the President that recruitment is key to the survival of the party.

“Use all your social gathering as women to recruit members and leave behind talking ill about each other leading to conflicts and misunderstandings. As women we have to build each other up and not tear each other down,” she said.

She added: “We need to think and talk about how we tap into and develop our inborn strength as women. We need to share ideas on how we develop a multi-skilled empowered individual with an empowered brain, a resilient individual who does not rely on others to get ahead, a woman with a thick skin, a woman with a lion’s heart. A woman of virtue, who lives a life of purpose and diligence as described in Proverbs 31”.

Makgato also spoke about the functionality of the Women’ s Wing structure questioning if it is politically empowered and have an activity plan or strategy, which she explained as critical for the survival of the league.
