BOFUS is a funeral scheme for the Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) members, which was launched about 12 years ago and currently has about 10,000 members out of the 15,000 BOSETU members. The partnership is expected to enhance the current offerings for the BOFUS members, which include marketing, branding and communication assistance and offer expertise to assist BOFUS to effectively communicate its core values.

Speaking at the signing this week, Liberty Life managing director, Lulu Rasebotsa said this strategic partnership would enable BOFUS to benefit from the risk management and insurance expertise to manage future uncertainty of the scheme.

“One of the reasons we decided to partner with BOFUS is that as Liberty Life, we see it as our responsibility to empower our clients, individuals, small businesses and large corporate institutions in offering the best suitable risk benefit solutions for their members,” she said.

According to Rasebotsa, the partnership has enhanced the benefits to members and dependents. Other benefits would include the number of extended family members being increased to six members from the previous four. She said members of the scheme would benefit from the partnership as they would have an opportunity to access a diverse mix of Liberty Life products to better manage their risks and leave a lasting legacy for their families and dependents.

“We have experience in creating solutions that work for and benefit our existing partners. We took our time to understand BOFUS and their needs, the needs of their customers to be able to design appropriate solutions,” she said.

On his part, BOSETU president, Kwenasebele Modukanele said the partnership will help in sensitising most of their members on the importance of having a funeral scheme.  He added that the partnership comes at an important time as they want to encourage almost all their members to join the scheme.

“Most of our members need to be sensitised about the importance of joining BOFUS because it has come to our attention that some of them are not aware of the benefits of joining and also want to encourage all of them to join,” he said.
