Speaking during the media briefing recently,  finance and administration manager at MTN Business Botswana Mthulisi Malinga said they have exciting plans to provide an unforgettable MTN experience and as such, it resonates with the unforgettable stature of the event.

He said the event is a beneficial one for all parties, but MTN aims to gain awareness and visibility to the Botswana market, and play in the urban culture environment. “This is a market that has potential in the future,” he said.

Malinga said the main featured artist, Rick Ross, resonates with the urban culture and can assist in activating the MTN Business Brand in the market. “Fables represents a progressive and yet creative platform for urban lifestyle,” he said.

For his part, the managing director of MTN Business Botswana, Manfred Engling said when the proposal to partner with Fables in bringing Rick Ross to Botswana was first presented to them, they had to analyse the implications involved.

“It was not only for the urban lifestyle arena, but taking on such an initiative had to be in line with the MTN brand directive,” he said. Engling said after further analysis, MTN Business concluded that the partnership will be beneficial to both brands on a grand scale. Engling said Rick Ross is still very much relevant today in the pop culture scene. “From his first album Port of Miami to his latest project Black Market, Batswana have supported him all the way,” he highlighted.

He added that MTN Business will continue in its efforts to create a pleasing experience, not only from a products and service point of view, but also with regards to information sharing and entertainment.

In choosing the local supporting acts, Kenneth Matlholwa from Fables said they were looking at various aspects which include among others, relevance. He said they were looking at current trending artists as well as others who fall within the urban hip-hop culture. “Obviously, we couldn’t involve everyone for various reasons, but the lineup that we have is solid,” he said.

In a surprising turnout, Botswana’s most controversial rapper Ozi F Teddy is included in the line-up right after labeling Batswana as stupid in his social media account. The rapper, who not so long ago started a beef with ATI and Young Black, has been keeping the fire burning in the hip-hop game with diss tracks.

ATI of Ke lekhete fame will also beef the lineup after releasing his new album, Envelope, recently.

Other confirmed acts include Apollo D of Ikalanga chedu fame. The Love and war rapper was among the first artists to be announced as supporting acts.

The hottest newcomer this year, BanT will continue his search for Naomi at Duma FM grounds.  DJ Root and DJ Fauzz will be doing their usual magic on the decks while Petula will be the host assisted by DJ Izzy of Yarona FM.

MTN Business Botswana, Trace Urban, Trace Africa, Brand Resolve, Urban Soul, Webtickets, Yarona FM and Kopanong FM power the event. Tickets for the show are already available at WebTickets. The standard is P500, golden circle is P800 and VIP is P2,000.
