Chiefs are enduring a poor start to the season and are cemented on the 13th spot, however Mafu is not impressed with the support extended to him by the management.

Magosi has only two wins this season with one coming from their archrivals in the past weekend and was thought to be a turning point for the struggling giants, however the team went back to losing ways with a 2-0 loss to Gaborone United (GU). “The (Rollers) win was more like a poisoned chalice because we did not enjoy it for many reasons. I think the whole system at Chiefs has not come to the party.

There are a lot of things we need to introspect starting with us, but most importantly the system,” Mafu said after the GU game on Saturday.

Mafu further said he does not feel he has the management’s backing but refuted that they have a sour working relationship. “The support system, the management, the executive and everyone else. We beat Rollers last week, and I did not see the manager for the whole week, I mean what is that. If I knew where they are pulling I would say but they are not there for me to answer those questions. No, there is no trouble at Chiefs, we are just a team that has lost a game and we both need to do our jobs because the players need the whole support from the coach, management and the supporters,” said a seemingly frustrated Mafu.

The Kgatleng giants’ management had publicly said they had given Mafu three games to prove his worth, he won one and lost two, however the Zimbabwean said he is handling the pressure very well.

“The coach is always under pressure. I might be under pressure this week, next week I might not be part of the job. But the most important thing is that we learn from our losses as a family. It is easy to bash the coach, but I think we need to work hard as the whole system. We are not geared for success at the moment,” he said. Mafu had earlier reiterated that he is not the weak link at the club citing lack of quality in the strike force as the reason for his team’s slump in form.

Reached for comment, Chiefs spokesperson Clifford Mogomotsi was quick to refute the coach’s remarks and said they have a cordial working relationship.

“As far as I know we have a good relationship with the coach, he is our employee and I can not go on and say bad things about him in the media,” he said.
