Suspended First Division committee seek legal redress

Suspended chairperson, Mpezeni Sambandawe said they were disturbed by various reports, which often carried one side of the story while they were bound by procedures and could not respond adequately. He said they were not given an opportunity to either address the teams that have trusted them with votes nor the business people that they were in partnerships with, before the suspension. Sambandawe said the committee asked for the intervention of the BFA on various occasions in relation to the conduct of those who allegedly masterminded the suspensions to no avail.
He still maintains that there has been misinformation to the BFA that is orchestrated by some people within the mother body who are hell-bent on discrediting his team for political expediency. “To this day it still remains unclear why we were suspended. There have been negative and defamatory reports about us,” he said, noting that the matter had an adverse effect on the people who trust them. “We are in consultation with our legal advisors, and we will take necessary action to clear our names. It has been bad for us.
Our immediate families, business partners, employers and people in the football fraternity that trust us are shocked by the news.” Meanwhile, there is a full programme of the First Division North league following a brief break to allow Sua Flamingoes and Calendar Stars to catch up.
Flamingoes beat Stars by a solitary goal, which saw the Sowa side maintain their title challenge. Flamingoes are third behind leaders TAFIC and second-placed Morupule Wanderers. This weekend Flamingoes face a Green Lovers test at Paul Henry Stadium in Sowa.
The fifth-placed Lovers are blowing hot and cold, but they possess a squad that could provide a stern test for Flamingoes. In their last fixture, Lovers succumbed to second-placed Wanderers. Wanderers could lead the log table at least for 24 hours if they live to expectations against underperforming Great North Tigers in Pilikwe.
Leaders TAFIC will only be in action on Sunday in a derby against stubborn rookies, Eleven Angels. Angels enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign and are fourth on the table.
They have lost only one of their seven games, but the free-scoring Matjimenyenga will test their resilience. In other games, Nico United welcome Francistown City Greens in Selebi-Phikwe and a few kilometres down the road, Real Movers host Motlakase in Mmadinare. At Makoro, Palapye All Stars host Calendar Stars.
