Lebotse who served for the country’s judiciary for a term and was not short-listed for a permanent position confirmed his appointment to Mmegi to the mountainous nation’s High Court.

Though still a bit cagey about the matter because the appointment is still being finalised, Lebotse said he was happy to accept the position and that he was happy to have served the country at the highest level when he was the acting judge.

“I cannot deny the news. As it stands, we are in the process of finalising the matter. But yes, I can confirm that I have accepted the offer,” he said.

Lebotse who is expected to start sometime next year commands a very impressive resume as he holds an LLB degree from the University of Botswana (UB), a Master’s Degree from London School of Political Science and Economics from University of London.

Also Lebotse taught law at UB for 15 years, eight of which he was a senior lecturer and published scholarly articles in revered journals.

In the corporate world, Lebotse joined the Public Enterprises Evaluation and Privatisation Agency in 2010 as general corporate counsel and company secretary.

He has also worked for the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre as a director of legal services.

Asked to comment on the independence of the judiciary in the country, he said he has observed from his experience that the country’s judiciary enjoys utmost independence in terms of presiding and determining cases before them.

“I have served diligently for the High Court and not once during my tenure as a Judge did I ever feel pressured by anybody to decide a case this or that way,” he said.
