Police Scoop Zone VI Championship

Police walked away with the championship held in Durban, South Africa after beating UZ Wolves from Zimbabwe 3-1 in the final. The local side did not register a loss in the entire competition that started on November 30 and ended on Saturday. Police coach, Shimaka Ngwanaotsile told Sport Monitor that winning Zone VI was a big achievement.
“It was part of the planning that we made at the beginning of the season. We wanted to win the local league and Zone VI. It was not easy, but we fought with everything that we had. I did not do many changes to the squad that I had last season except to beef up with Sekae Jack and Thabang Ramachela,” he said.
Ngwanaotsile said the next step is to compete at the Africa club championship that is normally held around March. He said they intend to go further in competition. Ngwanaotsile said they intend to bring good results from the championship.
Autoridade Tributaria from Mozambique claimed the third position.
Kutlwano finished fourth while BDF VI took position six. Kalavango ended the competition in position 12.
The women’s championship was claimed by Correctional Sunrise from Eswatini. The second position went to Universidade Pedagogica from Mozambique while Mag Stimela finished third. Kutlwano finished forth while Mafolofolo came sixth.
Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) vice president-technical, George Keotsenye said the men’s teams had a good run, but the women’s performance declined.
“The decline could be due to a number of factors like reliance on the same group of players and they could be ageing. It could be that we did not drop much just that the other countries have improved,” he said.

Men: Best Receiver: Uponi Gabobewe (Police), Best Setter: Mosinyi
Ontiretse (Police), Best Blocker: Happy Ribbin and Most Valuable
Player (MVP): Ontiretse.
