FNB Pops Out P3 Million For Junior Teams

The P3 million worth sponsorship will run for a period of three years.  The sponsorship is intended to support the administration of Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 girls’ and boys’ junior national teams.

Speaking at the launch held in Gaborone, BFA president MacLean Letshwiti said the sponsorship will help grow the development of football in the country and urged the private sector to lend a helping hand in the course.

“Football is about partnership and human development. Football is the property for the state.  To improve the stature of the game all partners should participate; FIFA, government and the private sector,” he said.

For his part, FNBB chief executive officer Steven Bogatsu said, “We are eager and committed to raise the profiles and enhance skills of our young athletes. Our aim is to see them grow into stable professionals and move them away from abject poverty and societal ills. Most importantly, we recognise them as the future of this country that need to equally participate very actively in our economy. Therefore, we choose to invest in their wellbeing and give them the support they need because we know they can be great and make Botswana better”.

Kago Ramokate, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, applauded FNBB for its continued support in youth initiatives and urged the private sector to invest in key areas that will assist in diversifying the economy.

“Football requires significant resources and as a sector we are pleased to have such partnerships. Contributions to football have been seen as a risk looking at how the game is run locally.  But I would like to applaud FNB for taking the risk and I believe is worth taking,” he said.
