Receiving the sponsorship, Rollers president, Jagdish Shah said they are delighted with the gesture shown by Stanbic Bank.

He said this will motivate other companies into investing in sport. He said Botswana sport needs partnerships like this one to grow.

“We are tremendously excited to have two leading brands, Township Rollers and Stanbic Bank Botswana standing shoulder to shoulder.  This is an exciting partnership with many opportunities before us. The language of football united us all and with such a renowned sponsor behind Rollers’ name, we believe great things will follow,” Shah said.

Stanbic Bank Botswana head of customer channels, Calistus Chijoro said being in business, they realised that it is important to enter into such a partnership. He said such partnership will go a long way in enhancing sport development. “As Stanbic Bank Botswana, we have a solid foundation on sport development. We have participated in many sporting activities not only financially but actively took part in some of those events,” he said.

He said Rollers are a big brand with over 180,000 registered members and have achieved a lot as a football club. He said there is a lot more to achieve and urged the club to work even harder to achieve even more. The bank’s chief executive officer, Leina Gabaraane said Rollers as a brand share common values as those of their institution.

“This sponsorship coupled with other partnerships we have established, is aligned to our mandate of moving communities forward.  As a corporate citizen, we have the responsibility to fulfil and we will continue to support the local sports fraternities where we can,” he said.  The bank also sponsors Gem Diamond Kalahari Cycling Challenge and Morupule Cycle Challenge.
