Nijel's fest pays respect to elders

It will see the organiser and 800m Olympic silver medallist, Nijel Amos have lunch with the elderly, as a sign of respect and honour for his grandmother who raised him and his siblings single-handedly.
The festival, which is held annually at Amos’s home village of Marobela will be held on December 23, 2018 at the spacious Nkosho we Madzu Farm.
This time, the festival promises more entertainment as it has also included South African music artist/producer Master KG who has become a fan favourite locally.
Last year, the festival was strictly local acts with Botswana’s finest such as ATI, Dramaboi, Dr Vom, JOJO and Charma Girl.
However, this year Master KG and Vee Mampeezy will headline the show, while Kalanga natives including Dr Vom, Ban T, Bangu and Apollo D all make a return home.
There will also be special appearances from Nijel’s alter ego, DJ Zoro as popularly known in the music circles, former Zebras striker Dipsy Selolwane, Bishop Dose Mosimanyane and Jerry Motsau from South Africa. “This is going to be one of the biggest festive events north of Dibete. The line-up is loaded and there will be lots of entertainment activities which the people of Kalanga should embrace,” promoter PP wa Pimp told Arts & Culture.
PP wa Pimp said that they have decided to take the event to a more spacious and convenient venue after attracting over 7,000 people last year.
He also said that people should not worry much about their safety, as there will be tight security.
“This is also more of a family fun day and we anticipate an even larger crowd. Dipsy and Amos will provide mentorship to the youth on the day and share their success stories.
“We have another aspect where Amos will also have lunch with the senior citizens of Marobela as an appreciation and sign of respect. He was raised by an elderly person so this is just to say ‘thank you’,” he added.
Meanwhile, PP wa Pimp allayed fears that their headliners might not be able to make it to the show because they are booked elsewhere.
“People shouldn’t panic.
We are aware that both Master KG and Vee Mampeezy will be performing in Bobonong, but we have made arrangements of time slots with the promoters of the other festival so that after the other performs that side, they immediately cross over to the other show.
Vee Mampeezy will be closing at Nzipo Ku Marobela festival while Master KG will close at Bobonong,” he explained.
Nzipo ku Marobela started in 2015, on a pilot basis upon realisation that there were no music festivals in the area. However, it was last year that the music festival became bigger and attracted a larger crowd.
The music festival will start at 11am and end the following day at 6am. Tickets are sold at P80 (single), P150 (double) while VIP tickets go for P250.
