Already, some members have started exchanging unsavoury words on social media. The audit commenced by the end of September  following resolutions of the 2017 Palapye BOSETU congress.

It was not the first time that the members were asking their leadership to conduct the forensic audit since they believed that there might be misuse of union funds.

The resolution was passed at their congress in 2014, but nothing was done until towards the beginning of 2017 when the BOSETU president by then approached their attorney to start the process.

According to a source, the members wanted to know if the Union leadership are following the laid out procedures whenever they are taking or implementing some procedures.

“They had requested the new leadership which was voted in at Majestic Hotel (in Palapye) that the forensic audit should start from 2007 to financial year 2018.

The mini audit was also done at the companies that the union is a shareholder at. The audit has led to executive secretary’s leave to be extended.

“The extension of the leave came because he is a director by virtue of his position at one of the companies where BOSETU is a major shareholder. It is not clear whether the report, which has already been given to BOSETU president, implicates him or not. The union treasurer also resigned within three weeks and the reasons are yet not known,” the source said.

BOSETU president, Kinston Radikolo confirmed that there is an on-going forensic audit that is expected to end by December.

He said the only reports that are out are the ones involving the companies the Union has shares in.

“It is true we have extended leave of our executive secretary because we wanted the audit to be done freely at a company that he is a director. The leave was extended indefinitely,” Radikolo said.

“The mini audit at that company is presented at the National Executive Committee then the governing council will look at it. It will be up to the council to decide the fate of the executive secretary whether he continues to be our employee or not.”

As regards the treasurer, he said the official wrote to them that he was resigning but was also refusing to meet them.

“We have since advised him that he cannot resign without being audited first and that is something he has signed when he was voted in.

We still believe that he is our treasurer even though he is not taking our calls or attending meetings when requested to do so,” Radikolo explained.
