BNSC says tennis association has complied

The Registrar of Societies had previously written a letter stating that BTA had not complied after failing to submit audited financial statements. The decision was taken after the BTA application to the Registrar asking for the amendment of the constitution was turned down.
BNSC chief executive officer (CEO), Falcon Sedimo explained to Mmegi Sport that BTA had submitted their returns for filing at the Registrar of Societies. He said the association submitted the documents on November 15.
“Therefore, I am not aware that BTA was not compliant. Let me inform you that every year, information is sort from the Registrar regarding compliance of all the national sport associations including BTA. This year a letter was written to the Registrar of Societies in August requesting for such information,” he said.
Sedimo stated that the BNSC still awaits feedback from the Registrar, but nonetheless, it was observed BTA had submitted their returns for filing at the Registrar of Societies.
Regarding the postponement of the BTA elective general meeting, Sedimo said the meeting was postponed by the BTA executive committee on account of non-compliance of their member clubs at the Registrar of Societies.
The CEO pointed out that there are 17 registered tennis clubs with only two clubs being in good standing with the Registrar of Societies.
“As such the BTA committee made this executive decision to postpone the meeting so as to assist the member clubs with compliance issues,” he said.
Sedimo said the other reason for the postponement was that the BTA realised that some members of the clubs affiliated to more than one club and served in the executive committees of the two clubs they were affiliated to.
He explained that according to the BTA constitution, which is consistent with ideals of good governance posed a challenge as the same member could propose a motion representing one club and the same person seconding the motion wearing a different hat from the other club.
Meanwhile, Sedimo said the BNSC cannot confirm that there is a crises in sport leadership, but rather that some individuals want to be in sport for the wrong reasons. He added that the BTA committee is simply trying to correct the wrong that has been discovered.
