Standard 5 Pupil Passes PSLE

Sesame who started preparing herself for the examination in a space of nine months decided to sit for this year’s PSLE, and managed to get grade A.
Her mother, Kgomotso Dube, told The Monitor that her daughter who was born in 2008 was a standard five student at Rainbow International School.
“Sesame is a very ambitious and hard working young girl. Academically, she has been doing well since her pre-school days. She started mastering her alphabets by the age of three. That’s when I took her for her pre-school,” she said.
“She attended several of them before settling for about three years at St Mary’s English medium. She was given an award at the age of five (reception class) for best reader.”
Kgomotso said her daughter strived to get 100% in each subject and that since she started her Standard 1, her academic results have never dropped. Sesame always scooped position one with straight As for all the four years in primary school consecutively.
She said Sesame always had a dream of sitting for PSLE earlier than her peers. Kgomotso always encouraged her to work hard so that she qualified to take the exam. She got grades A in English, Science and Social Studies, B in Setswana, RME and Mathematics, and got grade C in Agriculture.
“Her favourite subjects are Science and Mathematics. She wants to pursue a career in Engineering or Medicine when she grows up. Sesame will be doing Form One next year at the age of 11,” she said.
“Even though some people may think she is too young to be pursuing her Form 1, I believe that she is very mature and determined. As her mother, I trust that she will cope with the new environment. She relates well with other children.”
Kgomotso said Crackit Tuitions would assist her daughter through counselling and academically so that her educational performance is not affected. She explained that the family has supported Sesame throughout her studies.
“She is very close to her grandmother and that’s where she got most of her encouragement from. We ensured that she has all the studying materials needed for her revision,” she said.
“I would like to advise other parents to be close to their children. It is important to understand how they feel about various things and what they want. It is important to monitor your children’s school work and make time for your children no matter how busy your schedule is.”
