Karate Prodigy Masole Victorious On Return

After a series of bouts, the duo met in the 60kg final and Masole was too hot to handle for Ntalagwe quickly amassing successive points. The latter tried to mount a come back but it was a little too late. Masole won 8-3. The two are expected to meet again at the BOKA (Botswana Karate Association) Senior Championships next week.

The man from Glen Valley said he was using the tournament to sharpen up for the coming championship. “I have been in a break since March but I trained well and I needed this tournament to sharpen up and measure the level of my fitness,” he said. “I am happy with the win against my tough opponent although I am still lacking in sharpness but I am getting there.” His opponent did not take the defeat lightly and promised to bring down the house at their next meeting. “He has beaten me three fights in a row but I beat him before and this was a fight I wanted to win. I will go back, correct the few mistakes I made and I can’t wait to meet him again at the championships next weekend,” Ntalagwe said.

Tanki Keipone beat Maemo Gotswang in the six to seven boys kumite finals while Nelson Matshamekwane of Glen Valley fought through injury to marginally lose 1-0 to Otsetswe Machuka of Francistown’s Thebe Karate Club in the 75kg male category.

Other gold winners include Mpho Bosenakitso of 84kg category who was no match for Samuel Kabelo in an 8-0 defeat. Former national team wonder, Kabelo Molefe edged Tirafalo Tsimamma 2-1 in the male under 67 kg final. Thuso Ndaba grabbed gold in the male under 76kg while Thato Molodi won gold in the male under 60kg. In the senior female category, Merilyn Manthe expectedly took home gold after beating Tshegofatso Mangodi in the under 61kg.
