Mrs Botswana back from Philippines

The event started with the mentorship programme that lasted a week with the crowning moment done during the other week. Mrs Botswana queen, Keletso Linchwe made it to the top 25 out of 90 women and snatched Mrs Universe 2018’s Mrs Personality.

Mrs Botswana director, Kgalalelo Lesetedi, she said the queen met other married women from around the world who discussed different issues including gender-based violence (GBV). She added that amongst the contestants were women who experienced domestic violence first hand.

“Some of those contestants were abused by their own husbands. They got divorced and then became lucky again and found love. Those women shared their different experiences from their different countries, different forms of abuse and emphasis was given on how best people should move forward. It has been noted that in most cases, victims feel ashamed and afraid to report GBV or even talk about it,” she said.

She noted domestic violence and GBV were every person’s concern, saying people of the world should stand up and fight it because together they can stop it.

Lesetedi added that the women also shared issues of beauty, fashion and their diverse cultures. She also said they also had time to visit the beautiful Chebu during their stay in the Philippines.

Mrs Universe is a pageant that rotates around countries. According to Lesetedi, that was beneficial to the contestants and the countries in terms of tourism.

She explained that as directors of Mrs Botswana they were hoping to bring the  pageant to Botswana soon.

She said that she felt that it was high time the fashion and beauty industry took over and contributed to boosting the economy of this country whilst at the same time focusing on marriages and families to build a nation free from GBV, which is a headache to the nation.
