Thea rocks denim jeans at Serowe Kgotla
Thea Khama, the wife to Tshekedi Khama, showed up at Serowe kgotla wearing a pair of tight fitting denim jeans and no headgear yesterday during Ian Khama's Christmas event.
Thea is the most senior woman in the Khama royal house, because her husband Tshekedi is next in line for Bangwato paramount chief. This would make Thea 'Queen Mother' as her son Kaedi Khama will then be an heir to the Bangwato throne.
Asked why she did not dress appropriately, Thea said: 'It is unfortunate because we (together with husband) were in a rush and did not have time to dress accordingly as we were from another event.'
The couple arrived very late at the kgotla.
Some of the members of the royal family were uneasy about her attire but said, 'she might have a good reason for it.'
According to tradition and Setswana customs, women wear headgears, shawl and long dresses when they attend kgotla events.
