Now to buck the trend, My Star 2012 edition runners up Ayanda has released a house kwasa single titled setlhophegile.

Ayanda told Arts & Culture that she worked on the single last year. “I moved it from one studio to another for refining and later finished up the production at Bullet Studios,” she explained.

The artiste, who finished in My Star finale in 2012 alongside the winners, Sharon and Motswafere, said this is her first single after being behind the scenes all these years.

She revealed that she started music at an early age at Mogwana Traditional Group. Ayanda added that she always knew that her path would lead to the arts sector. Ayanda recalls how she once tried her luck at My African Dream talent search and could not progress. Before she came second in My Star 2012, she had tried earlier in 2010 and failed.

“I never gave up on my talent, no wonder I had worked as a back up artiste for musicians like Clement Jackson, Sounds of Jazz and Benson Phuthego”.   Ayanda said she was confused at first, but after backing a lot of artistes she found her main strength. “I have a dance background also, so I decided to do house kwasa in order to deliver great performances on stage,” she said.

The 26-year-old singer added that she is just testing waters with this single because the music industry is challenging.

“Everything from recording needs finances, so as upcoming artistes we don’t get much bookings,” she said.

Ayanda said this year she is looking for any music opportunity that can push her brand forward.  “I pray to God for success and hope that my career path take me places,” she said. Ayanda said she would not be where she is if it was not for the support she from family and friends.
