Chiefs recently lost a key official in Clifford Mogomotsi to a car accident, while the club is also facing crippling financial challenges.

Instead of pocketing their 50% share of the gate takings, GU were instead generous enough to pass on the money to Magosi, in a gesture that touched a lot of football fans.

“Chiefs are struggling financially, and also the loss of Clifford contributed to such (a gesture). They need a morale boost for both players and supporters,” GU investor, Nicholas Zakhem said.

Chiefs official, Raymond Tsheko said they were humbled by GU’s gesture.

“The double header was supposed to be in Lobatse, but there was a request that it be moved to Molepolole as GU wanted to pay their tribute to a fallen hero (Mogomotsi).

“We express our gratitude to GU for their understanding and big gesture. It is not a simple gesture. We are humbled. May God bless them and we wish they could go all the way and win the Mascom Top 8 trophy,” Tsheko said.

The figures had not been reconciled by the weekend, and Tsheko said they would only know how much they would receive from GU, this week.

Mogomotsi was a popular figure in local football circles and met his fate just before Christmas.

He passed on at a time when the club was sitting at the bottom of the BTC Premiership log, while also battling financial difficulties.
