Guma vows to keep stepping on toes

In what was seen as a veiled reference, during a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)victory celebration for Maun East MP, Konstantinos Markus, Guma said he did not care if any of those implicated in wrongdoing “come from a prominent family,” saying no one is above the law.
“Ga gona gore o ngwana waga se mang mang, ha o sentse o tshwanetse go di arabela (Your family lineage doesn’t matter. If you have committed a crime, you have to answer for it).”
“In the interest of transparency, it is imperative that all those implicated in corruption allow investigations to take their course.
“I too have been implicated personally in corruption, but I allowed those investigating to do their work without any compromise,” he said.
Guma clashed with Tshekedi Khama, the Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism over reports that the minister had wrongfully inserted himself into the runnings of the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO).
Guma and Khama exchanged sharp words after the latter was summoned before the Parliamentary Committee, following testimonies by executives in the BTO.
Another speaker at the celebration, former BDP secretary general, Mpho Balopi called on BDP followers to unite and avoid losing power to the united opposition parties in the 2019 elections. Balopi said without unity, the opposition would sweep to power in 2019.
