G-West man suffers wrath of commercial sex worker?

It is said the Zimbabwean commercial sex worker slashed the man's private parts in what appears to have been a deal gone sour.  Those who saw the man after the attack said his manhood was in a terrible state. They said it looks like the Zimbabwean woman used a razor blade to slash the testicles. Neighbours called the police when they heard the man screaming in agony. The woman disappeared and has not been traced. Sources said the Motswana man was attacked at his home after he refused to pay for services rendered.

Gaborone West Police Station commander, Superintendent Bonnie Bareki said the victim is not willing to come forth with information. He said they are still investigating the incident and no arrests have been made. He said the man did not disclose why he was attacked.

'There was such an incident. There are suspicions that he was attacked by a lady. We do not know the lady. We are appealing to the public to come forward with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect,' he said. Bareki said the man did not explain where he picked the woman. He said the victim is claiming that he did not know the woman. He stated that this is the first case he has come across because usually, they only get reports about women who have stolen from men who picked them at night for commercial sex.

Bareki appealed to residents of Gaborone West not to pick strangers at night.

'These people could be very dangerous,' he warned. He said the police are concerned about the commercial sex work going on in Gaborone West. The shopping centre has become a notorious red light district especially at night.

The commercial workers operate in full view of the police at the nearby police station.

Efforts by the police to deal with commercial sex workers have failed because of legal loopholes and the worsening economic situation in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean commercial sex workers charge lower rates than their Botswana counterparts. To them being arrested and charged with loitering is just an occupational risk that they have to cope with. Meanwhile, this is not the first report in Gaborone of a Zimbabwean commercial sex worker attacking a client who has failed to pay. In 2000, there was a similar case in Broadhurst where a woman injured the private parts of a man who refused to pay for services rendered. The woman later handed herself in to the police station.
