X Fashion show to celebrate albinism

Dubbed X Fashion, the show scheduled for Saturday will be held as an open space event at Gaborone’s Central Business District (CBD) Masa intersection.  It will have albino models parading on the ramp showcasing different clothing lines by local designers.

“We have been housing more than five albino models at our agency.  Our aim has been to appreciate them, show the community that albinism does not mean you are not human or that you cannot live a normal life, our models are a living example. They are confident, ever smiling, did what many were afraid to do, which was become models and walk on the modelling runway and embracing fashion,” Leatile ‘Latty’ Motlhalamme the X models director.

Despite it being a fashion show, he said this themed affair aims to educate and provide user-friendly information on albinism to the community, dispelling myths and misconceptions while alleviating trauma around albinism.

“We will offer information on albinism to the community through the catwalk event that will amplify the fact that albinism is a manageable condition.”

The albino models will be supported by some of their colleagues from X Models Agency on the ramp during the fashion show.  X Models Agency has previously promoted models of different backgrounds as they house plus-size models.

X Models has engaged with a number of local fashion designers such as Skeen Couture by Ipelo Leshogo, Jadark Kuvan by Judith Matola and Hillary by Hillary Molebatsi.

This will be one of the few fashion shows after The People Living with Albinism Fashion Show was held in Mogoditshane in 2014.

Internationally albino models such as Thando Hopa, Shaun Ross and Diandra Forrest are ruling the runway.
