Hailed: Rollers' defender, Gabonamong has been praised by his coach

Gabonamong missed the start of the season with an injury and returned a fortnight ago to the starting line-up in the 2-0 victory over Police XI in the second leg of the Mascom Top 8 quarter-final.

He played his second game on Saturday in the 5-1 demolition of Green Lovers in Molepolole where he partnered Mosha Gaolaolwe. Harrison said Gabonamong’s experience is vital in their quest to defend the title. “Gino needs to be there. He is such a good experience. He can control from the back and we have been waiting for him to get fit. He is back now and he has given us the opportunity to try out new systems,” he said. In his absence, Rollers conceded five goals in the league.

Against Green Lovers, Harrison opted to play with three defenders, Gabonamong, Mosha Gaolaolwe and Kaone van der Westhuizen and said they have always wanted to try out the system. “We had this idea towards the end of last season and wanted to go with it but the timing was not right. We talked about it during the pre-season and wanted to work with it but the timing was not right for it,” he said. He however stated that they will not play the same system every game. “We will evaluate our opponents and ourselves and make a decision based on that,” he added.

Harrison was also happy with the performance of creative midfielder, Ntesang Simanyana who was named the man-of-the-match against Green Lovers on Saturday. Simanyana started ahead of captain, Maano Ditshupo and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

He was among the goal scorers as Rollers scored five against the visitors. His coach has said he was impressed with what he saw in him against Green Lovers as well as the second half against Police XI.

“What I am impressed about him in the past two games is his work rate. When he arrived his work rate was not there, that is why he was not playing. But now he seems to have grasped what we asked from him. I am pleased with him,” he said. The victory moved Rollers to second position behind Orapa United who shot to the top after beating Extension Gunners 2-0 on Friday. Gunners dropped to position four while BDF XI moved to position three after their 2-2 draw against Gaborone United (GU) on Sunday.
