Botswana Police assistant commissioner Dipheko Motube stated that the trio was arrested during the ongoing Operation Kgomokhumo.  He noted that Motlhabani Kebalepile aged 42 years, his son Mpho Teleko, 24, and their close relative Othabile Teleko, also 24, were all from Boipelo ward in Gasegwagwa village in Southern District.

He said they were arrested on January 9, 2019 after they failed to satisfactorily account for the 10 donkeys found in their possession. The donkeys, allegedly stolen at Gasegwagwa Pan and Morebodi lands, were taken between last December and this January where the accused persons kept them at their respective farms in Ga-Mmampa and Mogapinyana lands in the surrounding areas of Gasegwagwa village.

The three accused persons, who were not asked to enter their plea, are said to have been remanded in custody and shall return to court on January 28, 2019 to face a charge of stealing stock.

Meanwhile, the BPS is appealing to the farming community in the surroundings of Ramatlabana Police Station to identify unclaimed suspected stolen livestock at the station’s exhibit kraal.
