Another councillor of Dikgonnye ward, also in Kgatleng, escaped with injuries and is currently at Princess Marina Hospital.

The Rasesa ward councillor, Seasebeng Monyake (61) died on the spot after the accident that happened near the Belabela farms turn off.

Mochudi police acting station commander, Wazha Zambezi, confirmed the accident in an interview with The Monitor. “The accident involved a Range Rover carrying one passenger, that is the driver, a Toyota Tazz with two passengers and a Toyota Noah also with two passengers,” Zambezi explained.

However, at the time of going to press, the police could not confirm what could have caused the accident. “All we know at the moment is that the Range Rover was coming from the Gaborone direction whilst the other two cars were going the Gaborone direction. Investigations into the case are still ongoing as we were still focused on saving the lives of those affected,” Zambezi added.

The Mochudi police station boss further said the BDP councillor was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital whilst three others are currently admitted at the hospital.

“One is in Marina, the other is currently at Bokamoso Private Hospital whilst the other is at Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital,” Zambezi said.

Zambezi further said another car overturned after a tyre burst a few metres from the fatal accident, but no one was injured.

Mochudi West Member of Parliament, Gilbert Mangole also confirmed the news. He said that he was not around when the accident happened, but the Kgatleng District chairperson informed him.

“Another councillor, Reginah Rakgathi of Kgomodiatshaba/Dikgonnye ward is currently in hospital. I hear she sustained injuries, but I am not aware as to what extent,” Mangole said. So far this year, four BDP councillors have died.
