Hope for end to Maun electricity crisis

Since Saturday, areas from Dukwi, to Nata and Maun have been without electricity, adversely affecting homes and businesses.

Consumers took to social media to express outrage over the blackout, while pictures of damaged perishables were also shared on social media. One major retail chain in Maun reportedly threw out perishable goods worth tens of thousands of pula recently.

This morning, BPC spokesperson, Sandy Mosarwa said the outage was due to be resolved tomorrow.

'Yes, I confirm that there is currently no power supply in Maun and surrounding areas. 

'In fact, it starts all the way from Dukwi, Nata up to Maun and its surrounding areas. 'Our valued customers have had no power supply since Saturday evening. 

'This is an emergency power interruption, which came as a result of five collapsed towers on the Francistown-Dukwi 132kV line.

'The corporation is working on restoring supply and it was planned that restoration will be today January 15, 2019. 

'However, due to the technical problem we encountered on site the progress is slower than anticipated therefore completion of the works is anticipated tomorrow morning,' he said.

Mosarwa said the BPC extended its apologies to the homes and businesses affected by the outage.
