Sekalo Wins Miss Confidence 2016

Miss Confidence beauty pageant is a beauty contest for people with intellectual disabilities.

The Gaborone City Council hosted this annual pageant in conjunction with the Gaborone District committee for people with disabilities.

The pageant gives young girls and teens with disabilities a chance to showcase their talents and beauty.

The pageant also gives these young beauties a chance to be confident and feel proud of themselves despite their challenges.

Even though most of the young girls proved to be multi-talented as they proved that living with disability does not mean inability, all the contestants were outshined by Nancy Sekalo who proved to have what it takes to be the queen from the on set.

The 12-year-old who owned the stage with her perfect catwalk and beautiful smile that stole many hearts won herself many fans with her confidence.

Sekalo, who owned the ramp, got the judges eating out of the palm of her hand.

The beautiful girl proved to have what it takes to be crowned the queen throughout the pageant as she displayed beautiful performances in all the parades.

Her divine dance moves got the hall roaring in chants during the dance parade.

Displaying her cultural talent, Sekalo who like her competitors was wearing traditional leather attire, danced setapa as she was displaying how a Motswana woman swept the yard using a traditional broom.

She looked smashing in her dinner dress that was complemented by dazzling accessories.

Even though the audience was evidently not happy with the judges’ decisions of crowning the first and second princesses, Natasha Tembo  (24) and Fikile Chiwaye (19) scooped the first and second princess titles respectively.

Furthermore, the audience demanded the judges to explain  to them what they were looking for when selecting the winners.

One of the judges said they looked at the attire, that is, if the contestant was wearing beautiful shoes, dress and accessories, overall impression, confidence and smile.

The queen walked home P2,000 richer.

She also won herself a P200 hamper from Notwane Pharmacy and a P200 voucher from Fashion World.

The first princess walked away with P1,500 cash, P200 hamper from Notwane Pharmacy and a voucher from Fahion World while the second princess got the same voucher and hamper together with P1,000 cash.

The other contestants received P500 each as consolations prizes.

The night was also made worthwhile by Kago, a young man also living with disability who entertained the audience with comedy and dance.
