Mafolofolo top the log after 25 matches, winning 24 and accumulating 73 points. Kutlwano are in second position with 62 points from 19 wins out of 24 matches. For Mafolofolo to grab the championship, they would have to win against Dynamites. The two are scheduled to play two back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday at the Molapo Crossing indoor hall.
Mafolofolo coach, Kabo Ntshinogang is taking the weekend clash seriously and is not taking chances.
“We are under pressure because we must win a match for us to claim the championship. That on its own is pressure. Our advantage is that we still have three more matches but we must do all the work tomorrow,” he said.
Ntshinogang credited the success of the club to the quality of players it has. He said the players know the importance of winning and that is why they work as a unit, which yields results in the end.
He said the players put a lot of effort when they are in the court. “We lost 3-2 to Kutlwano in our first league match and my players were hurt by the loss. After that match we trained hard because we knew the pain of losing. We then faced BDF VI which we beat 3-1. It was not an easy game due to the rivalry between us. After that we continued keeping a clean slate,” Ntshinogang said.
He said due to intensive training, his players are able to keep the same tempo from the first set to the last even if they play four sets. He pointed out that in some instances, opponents even admit that Mafolofolo’s pace was high.
Ntshinogang made an observation that there has been some positive development in the league competition with underdogs registering wins.
He gave an example of Dynamites, saying the side has shown tremendous growth this season.
He mentioned that at the moment, it is not clear which teams would finish in positions three, four and five. He said that means teams will continue fighting for the slots.
“I am concerned that we have less number of teams in the women’s league. The league has only seven teams. The federation made a blunder when they failed to support other teams that ended up folding. It is something that needs to be addressed,” he said.
Ntshinogang said the postponement of matches also affected their plans. He said playing many games on the same day was unnecessary.
