Considered by many as the pioneers of Kwaito music genre, the South African group will perform alongside fellow South African Kabelo ‘Bouga Luv’ Mabalane of TKZee fame. Made up of Thembi Seete, Theo Nhlengethwa and Junior Sokhela, Boom Shaka will be without one of their bandmate Lebo Mathosa who died in 2006.

Meanwhile, Mapetla and Dj 88 will add the local flavour and show that local artists are also up there amongst the best performers.

According to event promoter, Lecco Kenosi this year’s first Waar Was Jy Oldies Series promises to be bigger and better.

Boom Shaka are expected to perform songs such as Its about time, Thobela while Bouga luv will give the fans through some of his best hits such as Zonke, Amapantsula Ajabulile and Matimba.

“We are excited about this one. It’s going to be huge with the return of Boom Shaka to Botswana probably after more than 20 years. It’s been long time and people are already enthusiastic about it.

“The last show we did it was Yvonne Chaka Chaka and then we also did the Happy Summer S’ghubu which is more of a chill out event, but we opening the year with a huge one,” he said. Kenosi said all the artists in the line up are big and could pull big crowds on their own hence Molapo Piazza was the perfect choice venue. “Even though they lost one of their members, Boom Shaka remains one of the favourites.

We all know that Kabelo is also a big artist. He was here previously. Mapetla has done it when he came on to the scene. So we thought it’s going to need a big venue to accommodate our people. As you know, Botswana Craft has limit. We always had an issue as we left many people outside,” he added.

According to Kenosi, the first 100 people to buy tickets for the show will receive Waar Was Jy/Boom Shaka branded drinking cups. “This time, just like the Yvonne Chaka Chaka Show, we will do charity. We will donate to the needy students at Bokamoso CJSS at Naledi”.

He stated that tickets for the show are already on sale at BBS Mall, Molapo Crossing, Phakalane, South Ring and Kgale Liquorama stores. Tickets sell for P300.
