The latest development emerged at 24-year-old Thabo Tladi’s appearance before Village Magistrate’s Court, Chief Magistrate Mompati Taolo this week.

The State says Tladi killed Pholosi Nkoti, a security guard at a residence in Phase 2, Gaborone some time around April this year. State prosecutor, Christinah Ramokwena told the court that the accused killed the security guard in cold blood without provocation. She said that the accused had just arrived from a night out when he found the deceased chatting with his companion. “The accused was driving into the compound, he found the deceased in the company of another who where chatting and laughing. The accused then allegedly felt the two were laughing at him.

“He got out of the car, took his knife and stabbed to death the man. This he did without any provocation,” Ramokwena told the courtroom. The court also heard that the accused was a mental patient. “He is on medication, he should be remanded at a medical facility urgently. He has to go for a psychiatric evaluation,” Ramokwena previously advised. Defence lawyer, Unoda Mack said the accused had not taken his medication the weekend he committed the murder and that he needed to be checked into a medical facility. The man has since been granted bail and will appear for the committal of the case on January 2017.
