According to a serial entrepreneur, Matshego Lethola, the profession does have loopholes and needs to be regulated, hence the reason why his company’ Home Assist comes in handy.

Lethola who bought Home Assist, a company that has been operating for more than seven years from its owner last year, told Monitor Business that consistent property maintenance is essential for property management.

“The industry lacks some professionalism and it is becoming more expensive and people no longer want to risk exposing themselves to strangers who cannot be traced to their homes and later risk to have a house break in,” he said. Home Assist currently offers plumbing, electrical and locksmith maintenance services. They do roof leaks, drainages, and house valuation amongst others. Customers can subscribe to a package of their choice between the P90 per month or  P125 per month.

“Our company provides a 24-hour emergency home or property maintanance services and repairs, thus eliminating the need for property owners to call a random handyman without any vetting process of their criminal records to maintain their houses,” he said.

According to Lethola, the police have vetted all their technicians to ensure security. The company is located in Gaborone, Francistown, Maun and all major centres across the country. When highlighting on their future, Lethola told Monitor Business that the company would soon expand their horizon and launch a commercial product focusing on offices, salons and restaurants.  He also has plans to penetrate the neighbouring countries noting that they are still assessing the markets.

“We want to create employment to to as many youth as possible. Most of our staff currently is youth who I recruited from the schools,” he said.

The determined Lethola further noted that even though he has competitors, he always ensures that he is one step ahead of them, adding that he has an open-door policy that allows clients to give feedback on the service received.

Lethola is also the brain behind a bi-monthly Founders Dinner Series which is a platform that exposes aspiring entrepreneurs and SMEs to resourceful information, ideas, leads, business opportunities, financial capital, power and influence, emotional support, even goodwill trust and cooperation.
