Marobela elderly woman's murder accused granted bail

The state alleges that Mathata Jutase, 38, Mooketsi Goitsemang, 34, Robert Mochasaani, 71, and Kabelo Sebekwa, 35, murdered Ndinao Ikanyeng at Marobela on September 8, 2018.

The charge of murder was laid against the accused a month after Ikanyeng was buried.

Her corpse was exhumed a month after burial when it was initially thought the elderly woman died of natural causes.

According to the police, suspicion arose after one of the witnesses in the matter told the police that Ikanyeng’s body had bruises after it was discovered that she was dead.

A forensic examination later proved that Ikanyeng was killed which led the accused to be charged with her murder, the police further stated.

Magistrate Kaveri Kapeko granted the accused bail on condition that they each pay P500 save for Mochasaani who was ordered to bind himself with the same amount.

“The accused should also provide two sureties who shall each pay P500, report at Marobela police station every Tuesday, not interfere with state witnesses and appear in court as and when required to do so,” Kapeko said.
