The association is alleged to have failed to submit annual returns for 2015 and 2016. BTA has approached the Registrar of Societies for constitutional amendments in order to increase office bearers’ term from two to four years. BTA spokesperson, Shelton Benzah told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they only learnt that the association is an illegal body through the media. He said they have tried to seek clarity from BNSC on the matter but the officers were not aware of the decision.
“We have not received anything from BNSC saying the current committee is illegal. BTA learnt about it from your report,” he said.
The BTA elective annual general meeting, which was postponed last month, has been set for next week Saturday.
Benzah said the Registrar did not stop them from having the meeting.
“They have instructed us to use the current constitution without amendments as the application was not complete without certain submission,” Benzah said.
When asked about the number of BTA affiliates and if they have complied with the statutory requirements, Benzah said his office is finalising the matter with the Registrar.
He said the information is critical for the annual general meeting and that affiliates should be in good standing with BTA and the Registrar.
