The acting station commander, Wazha Zambezi, told Mmegi that a report of the incident of possible drowning was received at around 4pm on Sunday.
“We could not locate the body by Sunday evening so we called off the search around 7pm and resumed on Monday morning,” Zambezi said.
Zambezi said that the boy had gone for swimming with two of his friends.
“Investigations into the case have just begun but what we know for now is that there could be no foul play. The three boys had gone for swimming when their mate met his fate,” he said.
Zambezi said they recovered the body a few metres from where the boys were initially swimming. He also said that the incident was the first of its kind at the dam this year.
Zambezi noted that at this moment, the dam “is quite full. I cannot say by how much. Last year we recorded only one incident of this nature and for this year, this is the first incident too”.
He has cautioned members of the public to desist from playing and camping along the dam areas as these are restricted areas.
