In the first five minutes, Rollers had already won two corner kicks with Segolame Boy and Tumisang Orebonye’s shots being deflected wide. However, in the sixth minute, Mothusi Cooper nearly hit his own net with an attempted clearance from a GU corner before Edwin Moalosi headed in to Goitseone Phoko’s hands from a Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s cross.

Popa went ahead lead in the 11th minute as Maano Ditshupo met Orebonye’s cross with a half volley beating Phoko to the bottom right corner. With GU trying to get a quick reply, the Reds were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after Copper brought down Thatayaone Kgamanyane.

The returning striker, however skied his effort. The game’s tempo detoriated as the half was characterized by injuries and stoppages.

A minute to the break, Kgamanyane again with a free kick but this time around, his effort went even higher over the bar. The teams went to the break with Popa leading 1-0.

Just four minutes in to the second half, Keeagile Kgosipula was quick off the blocks to grab the ball from Patrick Kabamba’s feet after the striker managed to outmuscle his marker inside the box.

At the other end, Moalosi’s free kick went straight in to Phoko’s hands, six minutes later. Popa doubled the lead on the hour mark as Mosha Gaolaolwe rose highest to head home Segolame Boy’s free kick.

The defender was playing his last game in Popa colours before leaving for South Africa. On the break, Boy beat his marker on the edge of the box and went for a strike but was superbly denied by Phoko.”We gave away the game. We did not take our chances. We had one with Kabamba but he failed to take the chance. There were numerous of wasted chances out there. When you play a team that is as good as Rollers you have to take your chances but we failed. We gave the game away,” GU coach, Philemon Makhwengwe said after the game. His counter part, Zapata was full of praise for his players but warned that the job is not yet done.

“We played well. We played the utmost fashion way of playing modern football. We played against a good team I respect, but we should know that it is not over yet,” he said.
