The band will be touring the USA next month in supporting the legendary Soulfly as part of their Ritual incite. They will also share the stage with Kataklysm and Incite.

African heavy metal fans ‘maroko’ enjoyed a variety of rock music because of the different rock artists who performed that night.

Maroko’s fondness for the old-school metal group of leather and cowboy hats matched firmly with the music that was played that night. The other local artists who performed include Snyder, Rokara, Skinflint, Wrust and Alive N’ Bolder.

A pop and punk rock star Boitumelo Maitse also known as Snyder released a single last year titled You Miss Me, with a classic taste. She will continue to showcase her talent to Batswana, as she will be performing next month in Phakalane by Acacia mall in an Indian lounge. “I recorded a single last year and this year May I am yet to release eight songs,” she said.

Snyder said she plays pop and punk rock, because she is the first lady in Botswana to do so.

“My style is more like Avril Lavigne, princess of punk from Canada while for pop rock, the style is like Tailor Swift,” she continued.

A Tswana traditional rock Shalton Monnawaditang aka Rokara started singing rock since 2006.

“I have managed to record one album and a single called Real Men. I also have to go to USA on June 8 to perform at the International and Cultural Rock Exchange festival,” he said.

Skinflint is a three-piece heavy metal band that encompasses Guiseppe Sbrana for guitar and vocals, Kebonye Nkoloso for bass and Alessandra Sbrana for drums.

They have incorporated elements from African culture with heavy metal music. Their releases Iklwa, Gauna, Dipoko, and Nyemba pay homage to ancestral beliefs and African spirituality, while playing in the vein of traditional heavy metal music.

It was not a surprise to see Maroko at the festival because in recent years the heavy metal scene has been making a name for itself.
