The Night Market is a family fun outing with a jam and market set-up whereby craft-makers will be selling their crafts, musicians and dancers also entertaining the attendees. It is held once every month at the No.1 Ladies Coffee House located at Thapong Visual Arts Centre.

A number of handmade crafts such as neckpieces, bangles, bags, paintings, drawings and books were exhibited and sold during The Night Market event.

This Saturday night saw craft-makers such as Thuto Sekate, Xita, authors Donald Molosi, Botho Lejowa and Priyanka Handa Ram showcasing their crafts and books with the authors selling and signing their latest books.

Attendants had the opportunity to interact with the craft-makers as they got to learn more about the crafts with some placing orders and purchasing on the spot. We Are All Blue author Molosi’s stall was one of the busiest with a number of people visiting it. He was also welcoming as he shared about his latest offering.

Apart from the craft stalls, there was a picnic set-up where most people, mainly families, friends and associates were seated eating, drinking and chatting. Food, juice and wine makers also set up stalls.

There were two entertainment bases with  one that had live band set-up and the other having a DJ on the decks. Most young people preferred to be on the DJ side where there was more urban music. The live band side was a bit dull because of the sound. Instead of a band performing, they repeated John Legend and Oliver Mtukudzi music played from the sound system.  Dance ensemble TNT staged a flash mob performance that attracted a lot of attention as many left their places to go and watch the group’s performance.

With all that happening, the crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves. The environment was more relaxed as it was not a rowdy event whereby one would not feel safe. Some people even came with their children to the event as there was a kiddies corner that had swings, sand stations and slides.

Familiar faces such as Cibil Nyte, Faded Gang members, Mpho Sebina and some socialites were spotted at the event having fun.
